A few years back, Calgary had a freak snow storm in September that dumped over 25 cm (10 inches) of wet, heavy snow on the city. It didn’t bother me much, I work at home. But, it decimated the leafy tree population of Calgary. The trees were in full bloom and all that heavy, wet snow was too much for the trees to handle.
When I drove down my street the next day, it looked like a war zone. There were huge sections of trees lying across the road, it was almost impossible to walk on the sidewalk. The beautiful trees in our neighbourhood suffered huge losses.
Sometimes life has unexpected storms. They come at the worst time. They come when you least expect them.
I have learned that staying close to Jesus is one of the best ways to weather a personal storm. Jesus said, “Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in Me.”
Frankly, I want to live a fruitful life. I don’t want to regret what I have done with my life. Jesus gives us the key to living a full life: “You cannot be fruitful unless you remain in Me.”
What does it mean to “remain in Me”? Jesus gives us another hint: “If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! When you produce much fruit, you are My true disciples.”
Did you catch that? “If My words remain in you.” Words are powerful and Jesus words are the most powerful of all.
If you want to weather the freak storms of life, stay close to Jesus and remind yourself daily of His words. Words like, “Love your neighbour as yourself”. Words like, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart soul, mind and strength.” Words like, “No one comes to the Father, except by Me.” And words like “I have come that your joy might be full.“
So take some time, pull out your Bible and read ‘the words in red’…. the words of Jesus. It will change your life. It will give you the strength to weather whatever storms come your way. They will help you lead a full, joyful and abundant life!
Question: Have you read your Bible today? What are you doing to stay strong? Are you ready for a freak storm?
